First Project still.

I tried to make the first set of wheels to array. The also need 'engine block bearings etc for the axles to go though.

How to I array assemblies liek say in Solidworks, so I dont have to just move one wheel at a time or one axle and can group connect attach or whatever  So for the whole train I can make aeesmblies of double pairs so four wheel the axes cearign and machine blocks for all the train carriages

I cannot get it to work and  messages say there is referneces to other comonents

For static models and to keep the object stacks editable, just instance and group the parts together logically, such as:

Train Car

└─ Front Bogie

├─ Bogie Frame

├─ Wheelset A

├─ Axle

├─ Left Wheel

└─ Right Wheel

├─ Wheelset B

├─ Axle

├─ Left Wheel

└─ Right Wheel

├─ Brake Assembly

└─ Suspension Assembly

└─ Rear Bogie

├─ Bogie Frame

├─ Wheelset A

├─ Wheelset B

├─ Brake Assembly

└─ Suspension Assembly

Use Array to duplicate the entire "bogie" assemblage (front and back) to each box car.

If keeping things editable isn't important, save to a new file first to maintain the original 'live' editable version. Alternatively, you could duplicate the live objects and put them to a new layer and hide the live version, then simply Attach parts together and repeat; duplicate, position and attach until you have both front and back "Bogie". Then Array to each car.

Those are terms for the parts of the train wheel assemblies that I found online.

Look at this..

I am referring to the Side Frame as Bogie Frame. This is just a reference for naming parts and possible hierarchy of grouping or attaching. I made an ass-umption. I didn't know how green you are. My bad.

I don't know this stuff off the top of my head. Research and references are your greatest allies as a beginner. And when you encounter new and unfamiliar terms, simply look them up. Instead of asking a question about one little step, you could look up "how to attach in 3ds Max".

Like this: how to attach in 3ds max - Search

Most pros are not going to hold your hand and explain every little basic thing. People pay big money for that level of training. I know it can be tough, and I'm sorry if this seems harsh. I recommend watching lots of beginner Max tutorials to get familiar with the fundamentals.

I will install 2026 tomorrow and check your file in regards to the reference to other components error.
