I am very new (taking a course in college). I cannot figure out why trying to add more segments to a box creates triangles instead. I feel like there's a setting or something that I overlooked. I added a sketch and screenshots of what is happening.
It is an editable poly and I am using 3ds Max 2023 on PC. Please let me know if additional information is needed.
Look at the Connect tool under Edit Poly. If you have 2 edges selected on the same face, pressing Connect will add an edge between them. So if you select the 4 edges around a box, you'll subdivide that box with a new edge. Instead of clicking Connect, you can hit the button to the right of the text will give you more options in a floating window to add multiple edges, slide them, pinch them, etc.
