Help Modelling A Mesh

Hi,

I'm using 3dsMax for a science fair project to produce a 3D-printable mesh for the collection of fog.  Basically what I'm having trouble with is getting different components to join together.  I've tried using the connect feature but the results aren't exactly desirable.  

Any tips and recommendations would be very much appreciated.
