Exporting to Illustrator issues

When I attempt to export my file to Adobe Illustrator, it tells me :
NO DATA TO EXPORT

even though I have my item selected.
Why is it telling me this and how can I get my data to export?

Hi,

It's giving you this message because you're trying to export a 3D object,

Only 2D shapes are supported to be exported to AI

I personally used since a long time a great renderer called Illustrate,

It's for nonrealistic renderings, including rendering as DWG.
