Edit poly selection problem

Hello, I have a problem with selecting certain edges in editable poly mode. For some reason when selecting with marquee tool the selection is not working as it should (window/corssing is disabled, i backface culling is off, objects xform is reset multiple time, converted to mesh, to poly then again to mesh) and the same problem is still there. It looks like selection in subedit mode is on window mode for just some edges. Did anyone have a similar problem and found a solution?

it seems related to these:

Hello @Anonymous and welcome to the community,

There's a bug that seems to come up for some people like this time to time.  It's been logged and is going to be fixed.  In the meanwhile I have managed to get 2 scenes with this issue to look at, and I've found that by creating a box away from the object and then attaching to object to the box that it will select normally again.  Weird, and scheduled to be fixed.  I have a screenshot below using the object from the movie you linked.

When it happens I will try it as a temporary solution.

P.S. is there a fix for objects going completly transparent when textures are applied?

Hello @Anonymous,

If by textures you mean materials, perhaps.  Some materials are not supported in High Quality mode, and when those are applied to objects the objects can disappear on screen occasionally.  But if a material existed on an object and all the changed was a texture was added, this is odd.  I'd love to get my hands on that texture on a simple sphere scene to investigate and log if there is a problem.

Are you using high quality mode or 3rd party materials?  Any extra info is great.

Hello, by textures I really mean textures. For example here is the model
with vray material and checker texture attached to the diffuse slot. As you
can see the model is not visible in standard viewing mode and the texture
is not showing up.

I do have some specialty scripts, soulburn scripts from nevil, material
fixing scripts from Olly Ratford, relink bitmaps script, few mcgs
downloaded from scriptspot. But it is everything I had and it was working
untill patch 2.

Btw I've attached the max file of the scene. I have a nasty solution for
it, to change to performance and then back to standard view mode but
sometimes it is not working and the textures don't show up.

And I am using nitrous viwport rendering on windows 10.

Hello @Anonymous,

Thanks for the clarification, I really appreciate it.  I also use just about all those scripts. You'd mentioned patch 2, which version of Max is this?  Most of them have more than 2 service packs or updates, just as a heads up.  I do recommend having the most up to date service packs in general, but I don't think there was a bug like this so the problem is likely somewhere else.  Can you please tell me your current graphics card?  Perhaps it's unsupported.  Often it's worth trying a different display driver in 3ds Max.

The screenshot somehow didn't come over in your post so it's empty there.  When attaching an image in these forums you have to wait for the progress bar to stop before pressing Done, which trips me up from time to time.  If you get a chance please resend the image so I can get a better idea of what is happening.  Sometimes models can disappear if the scene size and system units do not match, more info here.  It may not be related to your problem but it's worth posting.  Thanks for the updated image for reference when you get a chance.

I've attached the photo to post now. It seams that when answering via email image insertion is not working. Any way. It's 3ds max 2017.1 now, when the problem started it was 3ds max 2017 ext 2 (if I remembered correctly) Any way it's a persistent problem (switchig display drivers does not help). The graphic card is 650 ti, now I see there are updated display driver so I will try with that too.

Hello @Anonymous,

It may be that this graphics card isn't supported.  I did see that support for the 6X0 series seems to start with the 660, so I'd imagine that is the problem here.  Does it work in DX9 mode or with another display driver in 3ds Max?  Thank you very much for the information.
