Difference between Edit poly modifier and Converting object into editable poly by left clicking.

Hello,

I am a beginner in 3ds Max. I am using 3ds Max 2021. I find something difficult to understand.

When I draw a box from standard primitives I must convert it into an editable poly by left clicking on it and pick convert to editable poly to manipulate the geometry.

But I keep seeing in tutorials that some artists do not do that at all. They draw a box (standard primitive ) then apply 'edit poly' modifier and start working, and sometimes they apply 'edit poly' modifier more than once.

I wanna know -

1- What is the difference between left click convert to editable poly vs applying 'edit poly' from modifier.
2- Why applying 'edit poly'  modifier more than once if I already convert in into editable poly?

Thank you.

They are mostly the same, differences in the link below. The practical difference, at least to me and my usual usage, is that the "Edit Poly" is a modifier which means that is non-destructive in a sense. If there was a change I made in an Edit Poly modifier I can remove it to return to the way it was before.

Edit Poly Modfier
