Copy UVS?

I have a rigged model of a space ship with symmetrical landing gear with wheels for left and right.

I need to create UVs and materials for the landing gear parts.  Due to texture budget I would need use same texture for both L and R, knowing that it will be mirrored.

Normally I would unwrap one of them and use symmetry modifier to copy them over. But this one has complex rig in it and I would very much like not to touch the geometry.

Is it possible somehow not touch the geometry but just copy the UVs over? How would you guys go about doing this?

I am not sure I understand your situation precisely, but if the landing gear on both sides is perfectly symmetrical and identical and exists as separate objects then of course you can simply copy the Unwrap UV modifier from the unwrapped side over to the identical part on the other side. (Right click on Unwrap UVW modifier>Copy then right click on Editable Poly in stack on other side and then Paste).  But you may already know that.  Alternatively, if the landing gear on both sides is all part of the same mesh, then you can detach one side and then copy the Unwrap UVW modifier over from the unwrapped side to the other as above.   So if this is not your situation, please clarify.  Hope it helps.
