Chamfer swift loop issue

Hi all,

Just starting out with 3ds max. Used other 3d software but I am currently having an issue.

I am in the process of making a snooker table and the issue is on the cushion I am trying to make.

I have a rectangle and on 1 verticle edge I have created a round chamfer where the cushion goes into the snooker pocket. This leaves a few vertices on top which are creating an Ngon I presume and so the swiftloop tool wont work.

When you guys chamfer how do you tackle this problem? The vertices it leaves me on the top edge are not connected to lines across the top of the object but if I try to connect then I still end up with a triangle no matter how hard I try.

Hope this makes sense

Thanks

Ben

Hi,

I don't know how you want to create your model, a good quality one or a low poly one but you can create all the parts differently.

Like you can take a rectangle(proportionally or accurate dimension) according to your cushion of the table. Then use circle for holes of the cushion and make boolean to get the easy shape of the cushion and make other part differently and use modifier like chamfer if needed. I guess then chamfer will not bother you.

There are many options to create such things. If one or more screenshot you can attach with this type problems people can help you out very easily according to where you stuck.

Thanks mate.

Yeah I do want a high poly model and thought about using a boolean for the holes so may give that a go. I think my concern is turbo smoothing hence why I want swift loop to work but seeing as a snooker table is fairly simple shapes i am wondering if turbosmooth or high poly is actually necessary for the top part of the table as the results would be good even as a low poly or without turbosmooth.

Would you agree not to turbosmooth the model for the top part of the table?

Thanks

Hello,

You will get smooth result in both cases whether you are making it with "editable poly-turbosmooth" or "spline-boolean". After shading-lighting it will show exactly what you wanted.

I'm attaching a image. There is 2 type model, No 1 is made with editable poly and you can use subdivision modifiers upon it and No 2 is with spline and boolean and a chamfer modifier upon it. Both have smooth result.

Cheers

Thanks again. I have created the holes already.

It is the corner of the cushion that goes into the pocket that is causing me issues although I think a boolean will do the trick on that also.

Thanks for your help

In the corners you models will look same as ref with just a tweak if needed after complete the whole model.

Best of luck mate.
