I want to add a lot of segments to that doorway. In horizontally and vertically. This is already an editably poly. The edge- connect way simply doesn't work, it just messing up the doorway.

How can i achieve my goal? 🙂

Thank you!

This far i can go, as you can see it's not 100%.

Not sure what you're trying to achieve - hopefully these steps will help you achieve it.
I have included the 3dsMax file (requires 3dsmax 2012 or higher).

See attached Image for Screenshots

1. I enable the SNAP tool and set this to Vertex so that the cursor snaps to the Vertices on the object. Then using the Quickslice to cut 2 new edges Vertically.
2. Using the same method I cut 2 new edges Horizontally. Quickslice will cut through the entire model and is great for scenarios like this.
3. I setup Smoothing Groups using a different ID on all the Flat Surfaces example ID1 for Front and Back faces, ID2 for Top and Bottom faces and ID3 for Left and Right faces.
4. I add the Turbosmooth modifier and enable Smoothing Groups to get my final result.

Let me know if you're unsure of anything.
