Add to named selection

Hi,

is there an easier way to add to / subtract from named selections than combining separate named selections ?

Regards,

Frank

Open the Edit Named Selection Sets dialog (button just to the left of the Selection Sets field in the main Toolbar). You can Right-click a Set > Add Selected Objects, you can drag/drop objects or entire selection sets from one to another, remove objects from a set, add or remove sets...

😮 That's not what I'm seeing. Must be because I changed my Theme. Try closing the Dialog.

They're saved with the scene, so did you save the scene after you created them?

Can you zip the scene and post it please? I'm having no problems with the Selection sets at all. I'm wondering if a reset of your Preferences folder might cure it.

Ok, so brain back into gear. I was looking at Object selection sets, you're looking at Sub-Object selection sets. The dialogs are very different. There doesn't appear to be a simple "add to selection" so it looks like the only way to do it is the way you're already doing it, or to select the existing set, add whatever you need then save as a new selection set (all without opening the dialog) then delete the old, unwanted set from the dialog.
That dialog needs some TLC I think.

k, hope there'll be an update in the future that makes this extra steps unnecessary and just overwrites the selected selection.

For now i'm still stranded with them selctions not coming up any more 😞

Ignoring the Add to Selected issue for a moment, mine don't seem to be disappearing. I can create multiple sets, open the dialog, combine, subtract etc and the expected results are still in the main list.
Can you try again - re-create the sets, do whatever you did in the Dialog but make a careful note of exactly what you do. Post those steps here so we can try to duplicate what you're seeing. If we can then it's possibly a bug which needs reporting, but it could also be a configuration file corruption on your system, so that will be the next thing to try.

ok thx 🙂 Already when i want to type a name for a new Named Selection, it won't let me type, it just opens the empty drop-down. This is from another scene, not associated with the other one where i started to recognize the problem.

Lets try a full reset.
Close Max, open an Explorer and navigate to
Users\[user name]\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3ds Max\[Max Version]. In there you'll see an ENU folder. Rename it (OldENU will do).
Start Max and it will recreate that folder with everything set to defaults. Open your scene and try the Selection Sets - if they now work then that was your problem, if not then it has to be a bug, but we need a step-by-step in order to verify it going wrong on other systems.

That does point to corruption then, rather than the UI Scheme. Changing Scheme also fixes it, but in essence it's the same thing because the new Scheme overwrites all the old files. Glad you're sorted anyway.
