3d max freezes when merging objects

hello everyone, I am having a problem every time I try to merge an object to 3d max. the file freezes and basically, I can't do anything except force closing the file. also in the task manager, it shows that it is using very high power and it just stays like that. I have attached a screenshot. I am using 3dmax 2020.

Thanks!

Only a suggestions here:

  1. are both files of the same 3ds Max version?
  2. have you tried merging both into a "reset" (clean open) session of 3ds Max?  Or to experiment and try to merge the destination file into the "merge" file.
  3. If possible try to export the merge file as FBX or OBJ and see what happens for additional evidence.  I understand this doesn't always work (loss of information).

That constant 7% CPU is familiar when 3ds max is hopelessly locked up.  Appears that your machine has adequate main memory.

I would try merging in something simple from the scene like a camera and see if that imports. I have had trouble with Max crashing when merging in a scene with populate characters that I have assigned new materials to. I have also tried merging in half the objects and if that crashes it try merging in the other half. Then narrow down until finding the problematic object(s).

Frustrating stuff 🙂

thanks for replying guys. I found a solution to the problem, there were too many motion clips and animation layers in the project. one of the projects had 38000 motion clips for some reason. I solved it using a plugin called forensic by Sini software. it scans your file for problematic items and it cleans the scene for you. my file has been working perfectly since I started using this plugin. Also, the viewport performance is better than before.

Ah yes, I had forgotten that I had "max freeze" when expanding from 100 to 800 frames in a rendering that had many objects in Animation Layers!    Good that you found and good luck on making up lost time!
