Thank you for contacting Autodesk Technical Support. My name is Dominique and I’m happy to assist you with your case today. I understand that the customer is having an issue with their 3Dconnexion mouse not working with 3ds Max 2014. To better diagnose the issue could you please answer the following:
- What 3Dconnexon mouse is currently being used? (Please provide name and model number).
- What version of the 3Dconnexion mouse driver is installed? (This should be found in the 3Dconnexion Properties > About section).
- Is the 3Dconnexion mouse being loaded in the 3ds Max Plug-in Manager?
- In 3ds Max go to Customize > Plug-in Manager and check if you have an entry for 3DXSTD.DLU and if it is loaded. (Please see image below).
If the mouse/driver is not working with 3ds Max, please try the following in the order listed:
- Reset 3ds Max to its default preferences.
- With 3ds Max 2014 closed and the 3Dconnexion mouse installed with the most recent driver, please run a Repair on the program. This can be done by:
- Going to Windows Start menu, click Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
- Select the appropriate product.
- Click Uninstall/Change > Repair or Reinstall.
- Select Repair.
- Follow prompts.
- Windows requires the same permissions for a plug-in as it does for the application. If 3ds Max is using elevated permissions (Running the program as an administrator), then the 3Dxware requires the same permissions for the plug-in to be able to communicate with 3ds Max.
- For example, if 3ds Max is using 'Run as adminstrator' permissions, close 3ds Max then right-click on the downloaded 3DxWare installer and choose 'Run as administrator'.
- Should the 3Dconnexion plug-in show as "loaded" in the 3ds Max Plug-In Manger and still not work, please close 3ds Max and do the following:
- In Windows Explorer, navigate to:
- Program Files\3Dconnexion\3DxWare\3DxStudio64\Contents\2014\ (change x64 or version details as needed).
- Copy the 3dxstd.dlu to your: Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2014\stdplugs\ directory (again, change version details as needed).
- Navigate to: Program Files\3Dconnexion\3DxWare\3DxStudio64\scripts\ and copy the 3DxStudio.ms to Program Files\Autodesk\3Ds Max 2014\scripts\Startup\
- Restart 3ds Max. The 3D Connection mouse should work appropriately.
