Viewport background image incorrectly rotated on import

I often use reverse-projection photogrammetry (camera matching) on multiple photographs.  Sometimes (not sure what causes it), when importing a viewport background image, it rotates it 90 degrees.  The "image information" window inside 3ds Max incorrectly assesses the resolution of the image as 4032 x 3024, when the actual .jpg image is 3024 x 4032.  Utilizing an environment map and rotating said map works for 1 viewport/image but I often have 5-10 images I want to be able to look at all at once.  Is there a solution I'm missing? Otherwise I hope there is a patch soon to fix as I've run into the issue quite often.  Previous solutions that are no longer working were converting .jpg to other file types like .png or .bmp before importing.  The only still-working solution is to screen-capture the image and re-save it, losing most of the clarity of the image, however.
