Is there any chance that we get PhysX update? Max is still in version 2.8.5 while the nVidia latest plugin release was in 3.4.2 but they released the 4.0 SDK now open source, can we get it?
This is not an Idea, this is a must do task, to Autodesk for 3Ds Max users... if they want to be in CG world, otherwise they must shut down their 3D CG department.
Interesting, what status of PhysX engine in 3ds max? Will it MAX's team push forward this technology (mostly dead) in 3ds max or maybe anther engine will be replace of PhysX.
The canceled their cooperation with NVidia about Physx development back when they where on their "3dsmax is not this type of application!" trip. You know, these days where they visit major studios to convince them to switch over from 3dsmax to Maya.
Still mad as hell about this, wonder what we could have now....
That's a valid point, now Nvidia isn't part of the Max package anymore and the PhysX system hasn't been updated for a while. So what is Autodesk doing to bring that forward to compete with the rest of the industry?
Is NVIDIA PhysX necessary while in my programs, I have the Nvidia Geforce Zotac 1050 Ti 4gb graphics card in my PC.
I googled this and it seems to be for gaming. If I am supposed to be using this while in ACAD (I don;t game at all, maybe a bit of Solitaire once in a while!) How do I configure this to be used while using CAD s/ware Revit of ACAD?
It's been almost four years now since this request was posted.
The PhysX SDK shipped with current 3ds max version (2023) still uses PhysX SDK 2.8.5.
PhysX SDK 3.0 was released back in 2011, almost 12 years ago, and had significant improvements concerning stability and performance.
Today we have PhysX 5, and I feel 3ds max is severely lagging behind.
Personally I don't request a brand new, full fledged VFX feature package like tyFlow (because we already have tyFlow for that), but my main concern is that the simulations performed by the now ancient PhysX SDK 2.8.5 is not as reliable as pretty much any modern physics engine. This results in even basic simulations suffer unstable "popcorn simulations" where simulations cannot be kept stable enough regardless of how well you fine tune all simulation components and parameters.
Even with the old 2.8.5 version there is great potential beyond creating animations, for example Kinematiclab's excellent PhysX Painter, or custom tools that rely on the PhysX version shipped with 3ds max for realistic placement of objects in scenes, but these tools remain somewhat unreliable when relying on what is now an ancient PhysX version.
Please, Autodesk. Please perform an update of PhysX/MassFX. It would make 3ds max feel more modern and up-to-date.
