Unwrap half model, duplicate the UV mirroring to the middle X or Y

Unwrap half model, duplicate the UV mirroring to the middle X or Y

At the moment there's extra effort to be done when unwrapping only half model.

This could be automated as feature.

Unwrap only half model, using for example the half left of the UV space.

Then when mirroring, the UV could also be mirrored.

If the user also has the option to stitch the vertices to the middle (other feature request), that would help greatly.

In this way, painting with an external tool is much easier.

If the geometry is symmetrical then why not model half of it, unwrap it and then apply a symmetry modifier to it ? If geometry isn't symmetrical then a UV symmetry mode wouldn't work anyway....

That's the idea. But I believe Symmetry does not mirror the UV, and it puts it on top of the existing one.

What I'd like to have is half model unwrapped, using only half of the UV space. I also would like to have the option to stick vertices/edges to the middle of the UV space.

Then, using mirror or symmetry, to have the other half with also the UV mirrored.

In this way, when the 2 halves are fused, the UV is already ready, perfectly symmetrical with no overlaps without too much extra effort.

Symmetry does mirror the UVs, its part of my work flow. Build half if my base mesh and get some UV clusters in early, then add more detail, symmetry, then check UVs/refine, then sub divide. The mirrored UVs are overlapping so if you don't want overlapping re-layout on check/refine

I tried, and as you can see Symmetry does not mirror the UV, but place an exact copy of the UV on top of the existing one.

In this screenshot, I moved it to the right to show that it's the same.

The ideal is to have the second UV mirrored, as in the screenshot I attached at the beginning.

The advantage of having it symmetrical in the middle of the UV space, is that you just need to paint only half, and mirror the layer in PS or whatever painting tool is used.

If you model the full object and then unwrap, you should have a symmetrical UV. I just want to avoid this long process, cutting it in half.
