Tools & Compound Objects that should be MODIFIERS

This tools should be modifiers instead of tools that you open, apply and close:

- Array, it would be so much flexible to have it as a modifier instead of a window tool...
- Spacing Tool, same here

also,
compound objects should be modifiers for the same reason:

- Scatter
- Boolean


maybe this is the case for MCG, but included as a built-in modifier.

 

It's in the philosophy of Max to work with modifiers,

the stack is the most powerful tool in Max,

adding this would empower procedural content and motion graphics animations.

Hi!

- You can create parametric arrays with Max Creation Graph. It's there for stuff like this...

 

- Compound objects combine the modifier stacks of two (or more) different objects into one, so they are per definition something different than a 'normal' modifier, which is always part of one stack. So, does that idea really make sense?

 

Just thinking it through...

I recently created a parametric array modifier. it may partially fill the voids you're after. it's not free, but hopefully it's value exceeds it's cost.

Hi @Xerges, thanks for this proposal! I can see its getting some traction, so I'd like to jump in and see where opportunities may exist to turn this into reality. One of the techniques I like to use when starting this kind of thing is to clearly state the problem we're trying to solve and ask ourselves "why?" a few times before digging into the "how?". Sometimes we uncover a bigger problem or an easier way to implement a solution by going through this exercise.

 

Could you start this off by clarifying a problem statement? Would it be fair to say "Modifiers need to be more complex or more powerful than they are today to satisfy my content creation needs", or "Users need to author procedural content"?

Max have tons of useless modifiers and some very handy ones like The Array and Spacing tool are to be applied as tools ?  The concept of tool is different anyway by what these two operate

Clone and Align also needs to be a modifier.

On a side note Its ridiculous that  even Blender has its Arrays as modifiers

Changing Tools, Clone, Align and Compound Objects to modifiers would be very useful to improve a none destructive workflow. I use as many Modifiers as possible because our project managers quite often change their minds about a model. So i usually create a base model and use Modifiers to create variations of that base model, which is easy to switch out changes by turning off the Modifiers.

Add the posibility of thime shifting and randomizer like IToo Clone Modifier or the MCG Clone Modifier and you have a great tool there.

A new Boolean Modifier is on the Public Roadmap in Beta: The Public Roadmap | Autodesk

 

In the meantime, it would be better to merge this idea with its votes into the one of Eloy Andaluz Fulla which is pretty much the same but  a bit more popular: Convert existing features in modifiers - Autodesk Community

Very needs the "shrinkwrap" modifier (very cool it is made in blender)
In general, all modeling tools should have similar modifiers. I was very surprised when I didn't find such a simple but useful modifier as "connect".

@Xerges you can now update your original post and title from the Options menu. Im sure there are more tools that can be included

another reminder to modify and update the title and the content of this idea!

The Boolean Modifier and Array modifiers are now available in Max. Closing this page out as implemented.

I think this should be kept opened for the rest of the compound objects and tools that are not modifiers already!
