Timeline - Shot areas

Timeline - Shot areas

Hi all,

I would love to be able to create "shot areas" in the timeline to help vizualise where my shots are in a scene.

Pretty basic stuff. Color chooser, some handles for range tweaking and a text snippet.

Createable/editable via maxscript.

I've attached a sketch of my idea.

Thanks!

This would be useful when you are animating a whole scene with several shots in it. We usually setup our scenes with a few hundred frames inbetween each shot. That way we can make changes between the shots and/or "reset" a pose or something. However, right now it's kind of hard to know where exactly to place those changes or "resets". Am I inbetween a shot or not?

This way I could easily tell if I have my time slider between shots and make the changes I want without worrying about ruining a shot.

Edit: It would be great if we could assign a camera to a "shot area" and then have the ability to "play only shot areas" (skipping the inbetween areas). That way we could get a better preview of the "edit" right there in the viewport and not having to render out previews and taking them into another editing software.

I know that we have the camera sequencer in "State Sets" but we don't use that at our studio and I dont see that we ever will. So this would be better for us.
