Showing the type of renamed modifier stack items

Having a simple and quick way to view the type of renamed modifier stack items will be useful (for example by using tooltips).

Sometimes users rename modifiers and space wraps to better organize the scene and sometimes 3ds Max commands add modifiers and space wraps to the stack with a name that is different from the item's type.

For example after "Render to Texture", a new modifier is applied to the object. It is called Automatic Flatten UVs. It is simply an Unwrap UVW modifier, automatically applied.

How about this:

Since the modifier stack is sort of a central hub in Max' UI, it could be a bit more prominent anyways, regarding font size, leading (line distance) - why not also put the Modifier's icon in front of it's name in the stack?

All modifiers come with their own icon - see Main Menu > Modifiers. They're not bad looking.

Softimage in it's Explorer and Cinema4D in it's Object Manager have icons, too.

Hi @Tupaia

Nice idea, thanks. I think both icons and tooltips will have their own benefits and perhaps combining them will be good. Although currently some standard modifiers and many 3rd party ones do not have icons.

Hi, I created two small scripts regarding this subject.

The first one will reset the selected objects modifiers names to their default,

The second one will add the default names to the custom ones. Example: let's say an Edit Poly modifier

has a custom name "cap_it", by using the second script it will be: "Edit poly: capit"

if you like, you can download the script from here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1jH5tAPTmCPANWffGJHJrY_BpQE0hkhda/view?usp=sharing

And you can check a demo video on YouTube: https://youtu.be/ijK_BhxBAf8
