Save UI button

Save UI button

If the "Save customize configuration on Exit" tick is enabled on the preferences window all the time, every time 3ds max is closed, it saves all windows positions.

Because I like to have the UI windows always in the same position, I have this option off, but from time to time I do some twiking on my UI and to save changes I have to do the following:

1. customize > preferences > turn on "Save customize configuration on Exit"

2. Exit 3ds max

3. customize > preferences > turn off "Save customize configuration on Exit"

Instead of this, it would save much time if there was a button on main screen with just a "Save UI"

Isn't that what the 'Save Default State' button in the Workspace Manager does?

However, I just noticed that the UI layout gets saved even when 'Save UI Configuration on Exit' is turned off in the Preferences.

Must be a bug.

I think the issue that you are describing here is a combination of a bug and a bit of a workflow issue and I agree that it is a problem. The real solution here is to have a more robust and predictable workspace and preferences system.

Archiving it, but looking into how to roll this into possibly future work for workspaces.

Hi @Tupaia

Thanks for the information. To be honest I've never explored much the Workspace Manager.

De nada!

We all have our routines, and unexplored parts of the software... I just recently  discovered how freely the Ribbon can be customized. That's some powerful configuration dialog there!
