Render Layers similar to XSI / maya

Render Layers similar to XSI / maya

Scene states seem to corrupt files and throw out data quite often.I'd love a proper render layers setup similar to maya or XSI where we can have a single animation in the scene but have multiple render layers where different parts of the scene can be rendered and materials and properties overridden to allow for things like convenient matte and shadow passes without having to save multiple max files.

Joe, check out Vexus. I think that's exactly how it should work. Plus, it can do a huge bunch of other useful stuff.

This would most definitely help, as I've seen people easily render layers to separate image sequences with Maya and then stitch them together ultra quickly:

Can't do that in 3ds Max!

Take a look at RPManager! It's an amazing plugin for render management, that deserves a lot more users!

You can also do most of what you're asking with State Sets currently. There was a big update for 2018 as well to make them more stable and more added features like tokens for render output.
