In previous versions of 3Ds Max you can Render a Point Cloud with Mental Ray, but now 3Ds doesn't come OOTB with Mental Ray; and the new version of Mental Ray doesn't allow to renderize Point Clouds.
Arnold Render doesn't have an Idea Station, so I have to put it here.
The most recent update of Arnold includes Point Cloud rendering. Please install Update 3 for 3ds Max 2018 or download the updated Arnold installer from the Solid Angle site.
