As of Max 2018.3, it can be very frustrating when a selection of objects gets assigned to become nested layer inadvertently when creating a new Layer. Could you please make a dialog that asks for nesting confirmation, such as "Make New layer Nested in LayerName?" With Yes/No Buttons?
Secondly - if a Layer becomes nested there is no visual way of recognising which layers have nested layers below them when collapsed. The Track view has long had visual cues that indicate sub components\properties. Could the Layer Manager employ a similar nesting UI to the TrackView where child layers are by default shown indented, or at least have a plus icon to indicate there are layers nested? In the screen grab attached you can see the comparison between the two UI styles within Max. The "Plants" layer could have ten nested layers within it, however there are no visual cues to tell the user this is the case.
