The Walkthrough navigation mode is very useful when working with interior scenes. But compared to the corresponding navigation in for example Unreal Engine the Walkthrough navigation in 3ds max feels old and cumbersome.
Here are points that will help improve this navigation mode:
• Change Step Size (view "walking" speed) by mouse scroll wheel.
The Decrease/Increase Stepsize actions that exist is will change the camera speed, but these commands cannot be linked to the mouse scroll wheel. When navigating using Walkthrough one hand is usually already occupied with the WASD keys while the other is occupied with the mouse. This makes it cumbersome to adjust speed using additional keys. To decrease/increase Step Size using the mouse scroll wheel would make this navigation mode much more comfortable, fluid and non-disruptive.
• Set Step Size value parametrically.
Being able to specify the exact speed you move the view in would be helpful, rather than to manually have to dial up or down near the value you wish to use.
• Display Step Size (view "walking" speed) value in the viewport.
Visual feedback on your current Step Size is very helpful.
• Configurable smoothing of the view movement.
Current navigation is very stiff. Adding smoothing to the movement, like in Unreal Engine, can improve the navigation by making it feel more natural to the user. It would be important to be able to set the amount of smoothing being applied when moving, since different users might want different amount.
