Make Camera Match work with 2D Pan Zoom

Make Camera Match work with 2D Pan Zoom

Currently when using the camera match utility, the "screen" coordinates don't work with 2D Pan zoom. If you place a point and then scroll across to another part of the backplate, the points slide around your screen.

If we're trying to match up to a 4k backplate (or higher) then it's very difficult to get a fine level of control.

Alternatively update the utility to let users assign the positions on a separate image that you can pan and scroll around.

I would set your render size to the size of your image and use alt b to use your image as the background and then doing your camera match. This will allow you to pan around and rotate with out the back plate moving.

@tony_niemeyer I do, however the camera match utility involves placing 3d points in your scene that would be accurate to the photo, then assigning each of those points a "screen space" position.

It's easy enough to do when the details that you're trying to assign a position to are large on screen but when working on aerials the difference of one pixel here and there can make a big difference as to how accurate a match you get out.

Currently there is no way (as far as I'm aware) to enlarge the backplate and accurately position these points...other than using an 8k projector on a wall and setting the background size to something crazy high.

I have the same issue with the camera match tool, as does everyone I work with. It would be great if it got updated to work with the 2D pan zoom mode.

I work for a company doing advertising/marketing images in the automotive sector and regularly need to camera match to an image where we have the CAD data for the car and need to camera match the plate using our car geo as the guide.

I agree with @sam_large  (hi Sam!) - I'm having the same issue when camera matching a photo - would be really great to have this updated.
