Improvements to parameter UI: adjustable font size

Improvements to parameter UI: adjustable font size

Hi!
Splitting up this post:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/3ds-max-ideas/improvements-to-parameters-in-the-ui/idc-p/7429821#M238...

The font size in 3ds Max should be independent of the font size of the operating system (Windows)!

There should be a preference to set the UI font and icon size in general, in a meaningful range.

The UI layouts should be sufficiently dynamic, so that cutting off of text or icons won't occur.

Thanks!

What is the situation you are running into that this is an issue?

Thanks

Hi!

When my eyes are tired and my monitor has a high resolution... =}

It seems this is a rather challenging task. I am so accustomed with the Max default UI font that I can hardly imagine how the UI will look after this.

Same, but bigger... or same size, but sharper. Good for our eyes.

It might become a topic when you go for a monitor with a higher resolution.

On more general terms:

Back in the nineties, when Max appeared, we had CRT monitors with relative low resolutions. It was common sense to 'pixel-optimize' the UI. In webdesign, too.

Yet these days are long gone. UI design (font size etc) now should be device and resolution independent, and should be able to adapt to the user's liking - not vice versa!

Somewhat philosophical sidenote: In the past, there was this thinking that we have to bend to the machine's 'needs', because technology was less evolved and we had no choice, it was much more expensive, etc. Only a chosen few were allowed to touch a high end 3d machine, much less criticize anything. Bit like the golden calf of technology.

Luckily, all this has changed, or at least is changing. Yet Max still suffers from it's legacy, like we know all too well.

Blender 2.8 is a good reference now on how it could be done, I'd say.

@Kranos_OrphydianI can't imagine either what the UI looks like when it's readable 🤣

It's been five years since I could last read the text on 1080p screens. On 4k 27 inch it's way too tiny. Not even that, similarly sized fonts in Blender are a joy to read.
