Updated Hair and Fur.
The current modifier is extremely slow compared to competitors and missing many modern features which makes grooming very tedious and hard.
An advanced scattering system.
Currently paying lots for third party scattering plugins like forest pack and tyflow. While these are fantastic products, there should be some sort of advanced scattering system built in. I know we have Scatter, but it’s not great by todays standards.
A more robust set of sculpting tools
Currently the best we have are some standard move brushes. We need a range of proper sculpting tools with a dynamic tessellation option like in mudbox, or sculptres Pro.
Dedicated motion graphics tools.
More people today are using 3D Studio Max for motion graphics, yet there are still no real tools dedicated to this. They are of course possible, but not particularly streamline and many times require scripts or plugins.
Something along the lines of MASH for maya or Mograph for c4d would be fantastic. Perhaps even a pflow update?
An updated camera/object tracking system.
Currently the camera tracker is manual, not intuitive and has no automation for tracking a camera.
I currently have to use After Effects camera tracker and use a paid plugin to export the data.
Fix playback of of procedural maps in the viewport and material editor.
When maps such as the gradient ramp or noise are animated and displayed in the viewport, the viewport can become incredibly sluggish, same if they are animated while the material editor is open. This is something I have suffered with for years. Surely there is a way to make then play correctly.
Update to the CAT rigging system.
It is still a powerful way to rig and animate very quickly, but it could be massively expanded upon to meet the likes of Maya. Also, its procedural animation window cannot be resized, we are constrained to a tiny window, surly this can be changed?
Geometry nodes
I know we the Max creation graph, but it is incredible hard to use and the information out there is limited.
I’m asking for these from a generalist’s perspective. Max is so powerful, and I just want to see good things from it and people loving it again.
