Fix/update the perspective match tool.

Fix/update the perspective match tool.

When I try to use this tool, the results are mediocre at best.

It would be nice if the user could choose when the camera is updated. Currently, whilst I'm trying to position the vanishing lines against the photo background the camera moves which then effects the position of the other vanishing lines.

I'd much rather have something similar to the other camera match tool (which is a little slower as you have to place lots of points and then adjust them etc.)

I also don't see why neither of these tools work with tilt/shift seeing as a large number of 3DS Max users are in the arch-vis industry.

So, I have a further suggestion...

I commissioned a guy to write me a maxscript that can read and interpret EXIF Data from a photo and use the information to set up a physical camera with correct Focal Length rendersize and other cool information like a daylight system with correct time of day...

Max could give it's perspective match tool a boost by using the EXIF data from the image (if available) to add extra accuracy to the match and reduce

Sam_large,

When your camera moves, I assume you are using a physical camera? If so, I've experienced the same thing with the camera jumping...even when not using the perspective match tool. The only way I can get it to go back is to go back to perspective mode then back to camera mode. Its more like a viewport visualization bug when looking through a physical cam.

If this is not describing your problem, ignore this.  😉

PS...whitesidevfx has a pretty cool idea with that maxscript idea.

@Anonymous I've had that viewport jumping bug as well. In my office we've come to the conclusion that's something to do with the viewcube as it goes away when that's disabled 🙂

Ahhh! Thanks for the tip! I'll try disabling it. I've avoided even using physical cameras unless I really need some perspective correction. My first discovery of the problem was during a massive animation my coworker was working on. Set up back a couple days just to change out the physical cameras to standard ones.  😐

Even better.  Other software titles like Photoshop can now use AI and machine learning to analyze photos and perform complex things more efficiently, it would be nice if Max could utilize modern technologies and be able to analyze a photo you put as your viewport background and then create a camera based on the photo automatically!

I struggle with this command as well, every time I use it, it doesn't work and I'm better off eye balling it. It's really frustrating because it would save me a ton of time and aggravation if it worked.
