Let's face it.
Max crashes.
Sometimes a lot.
So, your best act against this, is the Auto Save feature.
But, at the same time is the most annoying feature too.
If you tend to work in a fast pace, you will have to setup your Auto Save timer to execute every 5 minutes or less.
There is nothing more annoying in Max, than when you are in the middle of your creative process, the program freezes to do the important Auto Save and interrupting your workflow. When the scene is light this can go unnoticed; but, when the scene is heavy and the save takes more than a few seconds, this kills the workflow.
Imagine painting some Vertex Maps, or do some graphite sculpting, or fine tuning keyframes in the graph editor, or tweaking sliders in the Modifier panel and the program locks you out for a brief moment; you get the picture. This is just killing the workflow process completely.
My humble request to the developers is to:
MAKE THE AUTO SAVE FUNCTION WORK AS A BACKGROUND PROCESS!
Like grabbing Max's state at any given time and save that state, but don't freeze the program to do that, let it do it's thing as a background process. Doesn't matter if you procced do stuff in Max; it would save a time specific state, no matter what you keep on doing over it. I'm sure it can be done, simply because there are many other 3D apps out there that they do this successfully.
Thanks,
Greg
