Fast Clone

Fast Clone

Holding shift + drag to clone an object is very handy. But we always get this intrusive dialog about (copy, instance, reference, number of copys)  that means a double click.  Its good to have this options at hand, but when you are copying individual objects on specific places can be frustrating.

Proposition:

1- Have an option on the clone dialog to dont appear this dialog anymore for the selected object or his clones.  (so if we select reference and this option, as long as we are shift+drag this object or his references the dialog will not pop up anymore, and we will be creating references).

2-shift+drag will create a popup, but shift+control+drag will just do an instance without any dialog popup.

yeah dialogs kinda workflow breakinbg

but if we use Maya navigation mode I doubt this will ever work. I hoped with 2021 update 1 Shift drag to extrude will work with Maya mode but it doesnt.

I can think of another option, which is to open the dialog with a hotkey to set the copy options, which is then retained through shift+drag. It could potentially be put in the ribbon and work analogous to snaps.

(Off-topic)
Eventually, options like these are bound to break Navigation presets such as Maya's, because these are examples of individual user customisation tied to the modifier keys and mouse input. Perhaps the Customise User Interface should be overhauled, just like the new Hotkey editor to provide flexibility of editing mouse buttons, dragging, button press/ release/ toggle in conjuction with modifiers. Blender & Mudbox come to mind with user customisability that allows one to change these things, though the UIs for both are suboptimal.

Actually yes, will be great to have a flexible UI to customize what happen
on any of this situations.

You do this with Splines, and it doesn't ask you to copy. It's so refreshing to not have a dialogue box popup.

This is a must.

Also make a solution for elements or sub-objects to fast clone them.

good point @joeaf9321

For the love of god, can we get we get Shift+Ctrl+Drag to be an automatic copy, and Alt+Shift+Ctrl+Drag to be an automatic instance already?

In sub object Ctrl+Shift+Drag should be auto Element, Ctrl+Alt+Shift+Drag should be auto new object.

Please and thank you!

I have a solution for this. Using Windows, search "Mouse", advanced options. There is an option to automatically move the mouse cursor to the default option box.  This feels really weird at first, but it will change all your dialog boxes to be extremely quick. Now when I clone, I drag, let go and then click without thinking, and it is very smooth.
Best of luck.

Would like to be able to preview geometry when making multiple copies using the traditional Shift+Drag/Roate method  as its requested here: Multiple Copy/Instance Preview - Autodesk Community
