3DS Max could greatly benefit from utilizing the enhanced tooltips (as seen in the Ribbon) to the entire 3DS Max UI.
For those that are unfamiliar, the enhanced tooltips from the Ribbon have both a small, and large state. When the user hovers over a button and holds, the small version of the tip shows (a shorted/contracted quick tip of what the tool does), if the user remains hovering over the tool, the tooltip expands to show more in-depth text which includes additional alt-mode usage cases (such as does the tool work different when using it while holding CTRL, SHIFT, and/or ALT) and an animated gif of the before and after state showing what the tool does.
Other 3D tools in the industry (such as zBrush) use a similar method and I feel that it greatly helps with both discovery of what the tool does, as well as enhancing knowledge of how to better utilize the tool to do other things in a form of an "alt-mode"
