Isn't that exactly what the checkbox Quad Intersection does already? It's there since 2018 IIRC, both in edit(able) poly and the chamfer modifier. Or do you mean to implement the same functionality in standard chamfer mode that's there in quad chamfer mode?
Implement it in 1 segment Standard Chamfer mode. It is currently greyed out. In the Marius Silaghi's plugin there's a "0"(which is 1 segment in 3ds max standard chamfer mode) chamfer with quad intersection option.
