Convert existing features in modifiers

Convert existing features in modifiers

one of the biggest strenght of 3dsmax are modifiers, simple yet procedural approach.  Yet, we have a lot of features in max that are not in the form of modifiers that will be extremelly more powerfull if they exist as a modifier.  Some examples:

-Array as modifier.

-"Generate topology" (from ribbon polygon modelling). will allow to do changes on the base mesh, and see updates without a destructive workflow.

-Conform as modifier.

-We have "Extract spline" from an edge selection on editpoly.  Having a modifier that does that procedurally based on Selected edges will give a lot of new procedural approaches.

-Boolean as modifiers.

Conform modifier is also known as Shrinkwrap modifier in other packages.

A really solid Boolean modifier would be great. I don't use the current Boolean system because of the way its implemented. Tyboolean is cool.

Very nice Eloi! Features such as INSET with options to inset ALL or BY POLYGON and with options to change IDs of the newly created polygons (to make further selections easy) would really come in handy for procedural modeling or Maxscript tools. PS: I know that chamfer can create almost the same result, but it doesn't create the surrounding insets

yes, Max really lacks such a tool in the form of a modifier, now in the tyflow plugin there are several modifiers that make it easier to work https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3vFztKONaA

I think this a great idea Eloi. But I also think it's too broad. There are thousands of functions, so I think that one idea per function would be better. Here are a couple related ideas already for booleans as modifier:

For the other items, please consider creating one idea per modifier you think should be made. This just helps focus.

Thanks I will do! But I think its as well important to remember that one of the most popular features in 3dsmax are modifiers, are we should have more focus in to them. We had not so long ago a lot of new features in form of a Ribbon, when they should be implemented as modifiers first. We had a redesign of booleans, where the focus should be do a boolean modifier first, and so on.

I'm agree, is amazing that there is not a proper clone modifier in Max. I think that the Itoo Software Clone plugin is just a perfect example. I know, I can download that one or create my own MCG but is so much better to have something out of the box.

Generally agree with this. For instance, in teaching Maya to students and discussing when to add a Smooth to get more detail on the mesh I realized how much better this is in Max. Add a modifier and go up the stack to add details. Then if it didn't work right, delete modifier and try it a different way. This just emphasized to me the power of a Modifier Stack.

I think that some thought could go into reining in the interface somehow. But this is a key advantage of Max. You should exploit that more.

with the new improvements to the symmetry modifier that add Radial option with Count input some of the array function are there but I would definitely want all the array features in a separate modifier

A new Boolean Modifier is on the Public Roadmap in Beta: The Public Roadmap | Autodesk

After this I would probably bet it will be the Arrays but besides these too I doubt Autodesk will prioritize others. Generate topology though would be so nice to have. If they would refined it as they are doing with all the latest tool will chnage the game
