Cinematic environment workflow for games and interactive media

Hi everyone,

I’m currently experimenting with building cinematic-style environments and I’m curious about how other artists structure their workflow when creating large scenes intended for games or interactive media.

In many modern projects the visual direction seems heavily inspired by film production — dramatic lighting, strong silhouettes, and storytelling through environment design. I’m wondering whether most artists start with traditional blockouts and camera composition first, or if you prefer to build the environment iteratively while testing lighting setups along the way.

Another interesting thing I’ve noticed is how visual themes from film and games are starting to influence even smaller digital entertainment projects and browser-based experiences. While looking for references I recently came across some cinematic-themed environments here: https://slots.ba/en/

It made me curious about how far this crossover between film aesthetics and interactive environments might go.

Would love to hear how others approach this in 3ds Max or Maya — especially when trying to balance artistic composition with technical constraints.

Thanks!
