Autodesk Material can be used in all renderers

Currently in 3dsmax 2017, Autodesk Material supports only mental ray. Switching arnold or V-ray, Autodesk Material will be invisible in material editor. But what I tested with "Physical Material", it works with V-ray, Arnold. Then my idea is please convert all Autodesk Material to use with any type of renderer just like Physical Material.

Or Make the PRESETS of Wood, Concrete, Steel, Tile Floor, Roof, Smoke etc in "Physical Material". Then the user can switch to any renderer without worrying about Reassigning Material.

PS: I'm an architect. Not VFX or film production.

We're going to Archive this, but know that we will be changing how this works in the near future. Many of our products like Revit, Inventor, Fusion, Max, Maya, etc. are standardizing on a more common and open material definition including expanding this into other areas like Material X that is our partnership with Lucasfilm and Foundry on the M&E side of things. That way, regardless of where you start and stop from design viz to games to manufacturing to VFX, and regardless of renderer, materials should be nearly lossless conversion.

Additionally, we do have the Scene Converter that does convert Autodesk Materials to Physical Materials while maintaining the maps for things like wood or concrete. I would definitely check that out.
