3MF file format support

3MF file format support

Hello,

I work on a daily base making designs in Solidworks and then exporting as STL. Then importing in 3ds Max for morphing and blends. I make customized 3d printed wearables. For printing we need 3MF. This is the new file format for the future and standard allready in Windows 10 Builder. I would like to export to 3MF and import as 3MF in 3ds Max. When will you support this? Also when will you build in more additive manufacturing features?

Autodesk

We already continue to support .stl, I think it makes sense especially if 3ds Max is part of your manufacturing workflow. Any body else?

Autodesk is also a member of the 3MF Consortium:

Hello @brentscannell,

Any progress. Had discussions with HP about the multicolor MJF printers that are coming. I cannot export my designs in 3MF and that is what they need for processing.

 Hello,
I'm looking for a file format that allows me to import textured data from Solidworks into 3ds max.
The only export format with textures from Solid works is 3mf.
Therefore, it would be great if you could import 3mf in 3ds max.

Hi @brentscannell ,

you know any product which import 3mf materials. with current ( https://github.com/3MFConsortium/spec_materials/blob/master/3MF%20Materials%20Extension.md
) documentation is it possible to import 3MF materials in C++?

Any progress? It seems stupid that I need to export as OBJ and then open with standard Windows 3D builder and then save again as .3mf .

This problem was only reported 1 year and 1 month ago, how fast do you want them to fix it...

Are there still no support for 3MF files in inventor or are I missing something? I am using Inventor 2021.

According to this article Autodesk doesn’t support a file format they participated in the development of.

 https://all3dp.com/1/3mf-file-format-all-you-need-to-know/

"3MF is was introduced in 2015 by the 3MF Consortium, a group of computer software, hardware, and additive manufacturing developers that includes — among others — Autodesk, Dassault Systemes, HP, Microsoft, and Ultimaker. It’s part of the Linux Foundation, which means that software makers can incorporate it into their products."

I use WRL or OBJ to export model for color or textured prints on color MJF. ok doesnt always work. but mostly.

Yes that is what I have to do as well but nowhere near the ease and
stability of 3MF

Any update on 3MF support? Our 3D printing business is expanding and our team as well as the partners we work with all have to convert from OBJ to 3MF with Windows 3D builder. Now already more than 25 companies. People joke about how Autodesk is dropping the ball on this with all the daily designs going on, the workflow with manual conversion is anoying. We tried to work through FBX but then Netfabb is not importing the textures. I really think Autodesk should solve this issue as 3MF is a simple format using XML. @kerger.marc @jonatan.lothman_cAB7ZR @Anonymous @Anonymous @gerd_metzger
