3D max file loading improvement

3D max file loading improvement

Hi,

so most of the time that i open 3Dmax file, information window show up with the message (its either that the license is going to expire soon, or some parts of the model is hiden), until i close these message the file wont continue loading. 3D max have a tendency to open files slowly, so i usually use this time to go and make a tea or go to wc.. It is so annoying when i come back to see, that 3D max done zero progress opening the file, and then i have  a pleasure observe slow process of  file opening...

If you know how to write Maxscript, it should be easy to create a script that replaces the load command with a quiet load. In fact, I can't believe I haven't thought of it earlier! this has been bugging me as well. Well, I went ahead and wrote it myself.

The macroscript is below. save it to an mcr file, place in the user macroscripts folder*, then run 3ds max, open customize, switch to the menus tab. expand the File menu in the list on the right. Find the current "Open" command. On the left, find the MyTools category and drag the single item to just below the Open command. close and you should have your new quiet, no hassle, open command. I set it so that it automatically converts units to use the file units, and also always opens on the folder your currently open file is in - the regular open command doesn't do that for files dragged into the viewport.

macroScript quietMaxOpen
category:"MyTools"
tooltip:"Open Max File with no messages"
ButtonText:"Quiet Open..."
(

fn quietOpen =
(
thepath = ""
thepath = getOpenFileName caption:"Open File" types:"3ds Max (*.max)|*.max|3ds Max Character (*.chr)|*.chr|All Files (*.*)|*.*" filename:maxfilepath
if thepath != undefined then
(
loadMaxFile thepath usefileunits:true quiet:true
)
)

quietOpen()
)

Thank you for your effort😊

I don't have a skill of script writing, though i know it is a useful skill. The way i see this is that the work with 3D max is quite complicated process, because it has so much tools and option, and that is really GOOD thing, cause it allows us to do many things👍, but at the same time it also has a negative side - the more option and setting i need to dial, the more this process kills creative side of my brain. So, at least i don't want to put any effort on such an elementary thing as file loading process...👎
And i have to add one more thing.. the reminding of soon expired license and commercial proposal for next license is too aggressive - i work with other architectural software, and these commercials pop ups even at the time when i am working with other software (3D max is opened, but minimized).. Just imagine situations, when i sitting with the client and discussing architectural solution and suddenly the commercial pops up in front everything else.. it just unacceptable🙄

I forgot to write where that macroscript folder is!

so assuming you chose the default install location it's at:

c:\Users\[user folder]\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\[version] - 64bit\ENU\usermacros\

you need to replace user folder with your user name and version with your version number.
