Hi Bgersak,

Thanks for your question.

In general, you should be able to do network rendering over wi-fi without any issues, as long as the render nodes on your network are accessible and recognized by your Manager machine. The biggest caveat would be overall job submission speed -- for instance, if you were submitting a job via Backburner, with "Include Maps," and the job was quite large, it will take more time to transmit via wireless than if all your render nodes were wired directly into a hub or router via Ethernet cables. However, I ran several network rendering machines via wifi (each with their own wireless dongles attached), network discovery enabled and Windows Remote Desktop to access each, and didn't have many issues.

Finally, if you're looking for alternatives to Backburner, please look at the information in this article. Thanks!

dear john, thank you.
that was valuable.
i have two more questions if you can answer.
1. network rendering - can be done using different versions of 3dsmax backburner servers- for example 2018 on one machine and 2019 on the other?
2. i know autodesk stopped supporting running max on parallels - i have good mac still and want to use it for rendering. both mac and windows computers see each other, firewall down, IP adreesses known but still mac cannot connect to manager. maybe it is trivial question anyway, but for the sake of understanding i am posting it. thank you.
