Since the wire parameters in the schematic view seem to disappear and unreliable - I was wondering, is there another interface I can use to examine the wire connections? Can I open a script editor somewhere to get a programmers view of the connections?
Hi,
Under Schematic View dialog (Graph Editors > Schematic View), you can select your wired components and go to List Views > Selected Relationships for a basic examination of what kind of wiring your objects have between them. You can also detach your wirings from this interface. By clicking on the object name in this interface, the Wire Parameters dialog (ALT+5) can also be reached.
Also, you can select your object, go to Motion Tab and see your connections "basically" under the Assign Controller Rollout. Again, double clicking on the connection will bring up the Wire Parameters dialog (ALT+5)
Other than these, i dont think you have a better solution within 3ds max default install.
I will post if i find a script about this though.
Best regards;
I'm sorry, I was frustrated when I posted this initially. I know anyone can't explain how to do what I'm trying to do from a script interface in just a reply to a message, it's going to have to be something I must learn myself and that can only be done with time and experience.
As far as the wire-parameter dialog goes, that's something I streally struggle with. It seems the only way it works, if I click on exactly to/from where the wire is going, in order to administer the connection. If for example, my front left wheel rotation z-axis is wired to the other 3 wheels of a car, the dialog seems to ignore the other 3 connections to the other wheels. Is that how it's setup to work?
Thanks for the response. I'm not discouraged or disappointed.
From studying online videos and whatever else I can find, so far I'm familiar with wiring parameters and dummy's on a basic level - to get my modeled car to spin wheels and steer around the path. Moving ahead, I think I probably need to study more that scripting interface and programatically interfacing to make my own tools.
I appreciate examples, thanks - please don't break your back in a hurry. I'm patient.
Hello;
Autodesk oficially has a video tutorial for the subject you are into.
Instead of explaining here as exactly the same, i can suggest you to watch this (and the following parts of the series) to achieve what you describe in your post.
You can also obtain the .max files of these series from the video links to inspect the scenes.

Hi; thank you for the research. The car rigging tutorials I have read and watched, as that's an important for my designs. And I love the narrorator's voice is so easy to hear and understand.
I researched 3rd party tutorials to break me into the scripting aspect, where I can use functions to measure the distance of the path internally.
Thanks for the information Harold. It's nice to know that I'm not alone with the issue. I figured the interface would be just like the material editor where I can connect the wire node nodes in my objects in a graphic ui, the same way. The way is setup now, I pretty much have to keep paper notes for all my connections, if I want to go back to my file a week later to look up how it was done.
p.s. - I tried to vote on that site, and after 40 minutes of trying to link my account and login, I give up. I need help to link my account to http://3dsmaxfeedback.autodesk.com in order to vote - the "link account" rejects my login credentials, which I obviously have since I am posting messages on this forum.
