What software on a Mac can I use to open and apply Textures to 3ds Max models?

Hello,

Our office is Mac based, not a single PC in sight. We are working with an outside company to create renderings of our product. Once the rendering are created we would like to get a software that we would be able to open the 3ds Max files with and be able to apply textures to them.

Your help is appreciated in advance.

Thank you,

Viktorya-

Hi;

3ds Max Native files (.max, .chr file extensions) can only be opened in 3ds Max.

But since Autodesk has .FBX file extension support between all its 3d media and entertainment softwares, you should be looking for FBX files and you can use shaders on these files with Autodesk Maya, which has MacOS version.

FBX file formats can be exported by all these softwares, so you can find a PC for an export session and get your models as FBX format, even with their animations.

You can also import file formats such as .obj, 3ds and more on, but FBX files will give you more flexibility between 3ds max, Maya, Mudbox etc.

Best regards;

Another solution could be to run Windows & 3dsMax on your Mac via Bootcamp or similar. I don't know how to do it, but I know it's done several places.

Hope it helps

Thank you everyone. I was not able to open up the FBX files in Maya, but I was able to have 3ds files saved out as Maya files to accomplish what I needed.

Proh- thanks for the boot camp suggestion. That would have been my last resort. Not a fan of running 2 OS on my machine.

Thank you so much for pointing this newbie in the right direction.
