What is the best way to unwrap uwv for keyboard keys (texture)

Hi! Could anybody advise what is the best way and how to unwrap keys of the keyboard model in order all of the keys of the keyboard could be represented on the UV in the order it really presents in the model? Here is a screenshot. All of the keys on my 'Edit UVWs" are placed randomly and I want them to be placed like in the model's order.

First of all, the individual keys are not properly unwrapped yet.  The sides of the keys are not flattened out yet and should look more like the following (shown on one key as example) if you care about properly texturing the sides of the keys in addition to the top.    If you haven't already done so, you should remove the polygon on the underside (the side not showing) of each key before you Unwrap.  This will allow you to use "Quick Planar map" followed by "Quick Peel" on each key which is how I got the result below.   It is not a perfect unwrap in terms of area distortion, but should be good enough for most purposes.

Regarding your question as to how to place the keys in your UV tiles, you will have to do this manually as there is no way for Max to know where you want to place each of the UV islands.  After you have unwrapped the keys click "Pack Custom" to have the keys sized properly within the UV space.  Then select all of them and drag them away from the U1V1 tile.  Then select and place each island where you want on the U1V1 tile.   It should not be that bad, maybe 20 minutes of work.

Press "Quck planar map" with those faces selected.

That's it, don't change packing in editor.

"Quck planar map" under "Edit UVs", not planar map under "Projection" group

You probably don't even need to do that kind of things with Unwrap modifier/editor, but with UVW Map modifier.

Properly unwrapping is what best suit your goal, not what you can most read about on forums...
