Weird UV checker behaviour

Hey there,

I've just started learning about unwrapping UV's, which I'm new to. When I wanted to check is it all right, I saw a tiny issue which driving me crazy. In my opinion - as you can see on screenshot - there is everything right, because I'm learning from the tutorial but i have that odd stretched grid on model.

How could I fix it? Thank you in advance.

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for coming to the forums with your question! What version of 3DS Max are you using?

I would suggest Finding a way to have a more straight edge on the parts you noticing stretching on. I have attached a scene (Max 2019) where I have unwrapped 2 spheres to showcase the difference in stretching between the two spheres. Here is a screenshot.

Screenshot (159).png

You can see on the right, I have a sphere with a pretty unified, straight unwrap, that only has stretching at the top of the object. on the left, I have cut the unwrap in half, and have a more rounded edge like your helmet object...and I get stretching on the side.

When I'm unwrapping, I think about what angle the viewer will see my model at, then I know where some stretching can occur.

I hope this helps, and let me know if you have any tool specific questions 😄

Hey hagen.deloss,

Thank you for very usefull answer. It could solve my future problems 😄

Anyway i fixed last issue by coping and pasting all scene to new 3ds max file by script. It sounds a little dumb but it works well in this case, because older file must be broken or something like this.

(I have attached a image of results)

Hi @Anonymous

That's great to hear! What script did you end up using? It looks like the UV's scaled larger in your new scene, do you have an idea on what was wrong with the scene?

Now i think that the best way to solve this issue is to create two similar toolbars(UI->Toolbar->Main UI->CG Tools):
1. Copy toolbar in broken file
2. Paste toolbar in new file
And move our object through this way. Literally i don't know why this happen because i'm quite new in 3DSmax but when i work in diffrent software like autocad and file get a lot of lines sometimes it may crash and the only way to solve it is restart all settings to 0
