Vray material looks unrealistic

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hello,

i am new to vray and 3ds max and i try to visualize architecture exteriors. My textures are from 3dtextures.me and textures.com. On the website these textures seem so realistic and when i follow their step by step manuals the material looks like a doom 1 map from 1999. How can i set the settings that it looks more realistic? i use diffuse, normal and displacement maps.

You will need to post your settings for the shaders and lighting.  A screen grab of your scene will help figure out if there are any other things contributing to the "doom" look.

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for bringing your question to the forums!

I agree ith @Anamorphic_DA a screenshot or example file would be helpful to determine what the exact issue is.

Are you talking about the way V-Ray displays its materials in the 3ds Max viewport, or at render time?

Looking forward to hearing more 😄

Thanks for your answers. I attached the .max file of my project and an example jpeg of how it should look like in the end. I need this for my architecture degree in 3 weeks and it would be very good if you could  provide me with some tips on how to set the settings or material for this collage effect. i would like to render the buildings with the wood texture and some grass and do the rest in photoshop. Thanks in advance.

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for the scene! Just to be clear, I don't have V-Ray, Chaos Group is the company that makes that plugin. For any workflow advice specific to V-Ray, you may be better off going to their forums here. I would also highly recommend looking at their documentation, and watching some tutorials.

I however can give you some general advice that isn't specific to V-Ray. I will get back to you with some suggestions after I get a chance to look at your scene more in depth.

You are specifically looking for advice on wood materials and a grass effect, is that right?

You need to create an Archive Zip file of your project - otherwise none of your textures are included without those I cannot help.
