Hello,

I'm in a bit of a tricky spot. I sent off a huge project to a render farm last night, and I've just realised the glass in the scene is rendering black, when there is no geometry behind it.

I've attached an example of the problem.

Can anyone help me out with this? The project is going to DVD on Tuesday and the render farm is waiting for me to fix the problem! :S Waa.

Rendering with V-Ray.

Any help much appreciated.

Sorted!! Both vray and standard environment settings need to be the same. (in my case white)

The reason this is happening is that the environment is being refracted in the glass and since the environment is black, the refractions of that environment are black.  Changing the color to white won't fix your alphas but it will hide the black.  The problem will reappear however if you attempt to lay someone underneath it in comp.  

 

Fortunately the Vray materials have a method for dealing with this built into the refraction settings, shown below.  However it'll still refract the environment color where it overlaps (e.g. the edges of the glass)  I've attached test.png which has my environment color set to green with Affect Alpha on.  You can see this is a bit more comp friendly.
