Unwrap UVW Rescale Selection Multiple Objects

Hello everyoen,

I applied the unwrap uvw modifier to multiple objects (instanced) and arranged the uv segments in the map. Now I would like to rescale the whole arrangement to exactly match the map in width (the arrangement is wider than high) while keeping its aspect ratio. The uv template needs to be exactly as wide as its content without any blank area on the sides. Packing rearranges the elements, which is bad, also when grouping the elements before.

Can anyone help? Thank you!

Hi @alLVU34,

If I understand your situation correctly, you can manually scale all of your selected UV Islands with the "Scale Selected Subobjects" tool in the UV Editor window (3rd icon from the left in the top toolbar).  To help you align the islands  with the  texture, you can show the texture in the UV tile space via the caret dropdown in the upper right of the UV editor ("pick texture").   Hope this helps.

Hi, thanks for your suggestion.

I know the scaling tool and it works okay but it is a manual way of doing this task. You have to be really precise by dragging the lines to the map's borders if you want a relatively good result.

An automated or numeric way of scaling the arrangement to match the map would be much more convenient.

Any idea?

@alLVU34

I am not sure of the order of operations in what you did or whether you can make the Unwrap all one UV island or not, but as a simple example, I

1. Created multiple boxes as instances

2. Applied an Unwrap UVW modifier to one of the instanced boxes

3. Unwrapped the box into a single UV Island

4. Hit "Pack Custom"

and the resulting UVW island extends as far as it can to the edges of the U1V1 tile.

The same UV mapping is also on all of the instanced boxes without further effort on my  part.

 Is there a reason that you cannot follow this workflow for your use case?
