Hi, I need help. Wanted to do some work on 3Ds Max 2020 student version today but, I couldn’t move around in the software. I tried on a different PC with 2019 version but I had no luck. I thought it was my mouse but scroll works as I can zoom in/out but doesn’t let me do anything else’s. anyone had that issue and fixed it ?

Hello @kowalik1224 and welcome to the community,

Are you attempting to move via hotkey or camera settings?  What happens when you do try the hotkeys or camera settings?   Are you on a laptop?

Best Regards,

  1. Hi, I tried via hotkey and camera setting but nothing seems to work. Also, I did the same thing on PC and tablet which worked fine couple of days ago.

What kind of device are you trying to use it on, currently?

My guess is your graphics card is not supported.  Specs of the device?

Just to be clear, you're using the hotkey Control + middle mouse button to move?  Control and Alt + MMB to rotate?

Are you using Maya control mode or something?

Do you have any weird peripherals plugged in?

What do you think it might be?

Not much to go on here.  Never heard of this problem in 20+ years.

I have been using 3Ds Max since 2015, I never had that issue or even heard of it. I tried to move via camera settings and hotkeys + MMB. No using any control modes or settings, just standard 3Ds Max settings. Also, my mouse is Razer DeadAdder, checked all the drivers on graphics card and mouse, all up to date. So I have no idea what could be the problem. It all worked flawlessly before.

Ok, sorry just covering the bases.  Point taken.

OK, so then what do those two systems have in common?  Are they using the same keyboard?  Maybe the keyboard is bad?  Or maybe there's a mode select on the hardware level?  (Like a laptops function key?)

Maybe the middle mouse button is bound to a different key in windows?  (Happened with my RedDragon cheapo mouse.)  If you go into the razer settings and double check, is it bound to MMB?  Does the middle button work as normal in other apps?

Is something stealing focus from Max as you start to do a rotate or pan?  Does the screen blink when you start to rotate or pan?

Best Regards,

Hi @kowalik1224 ,

Thanks for your question. Can you please try resetting your 3ds Max user preferences back to their default settings to see if this fixes the issue?

Please let us know if this helps, and we hope to hear from you soon!
