When is this getting fixed? It's pretty impossible to work with. Is there no work around?

Ohhh, in addition to mentioned problem, in this version of Max (2017 sp3), layers of Composite map does not save it's new order after reordering (they loose new order after I'm going to another material, map, reopen material editor e t.c...)!!! Whaaat??? Cat Mad

I'm working in Max almost 15 years, but this version is the most bugged ever! (( Did test-team tested features that was changed at least a little bit? Smiley Sad

Thank you for reporting this @Anonymous,

I've updated the tracker with a video file on how to repro this.

I think that the problem @mikhail.martynovsky, is reporting is more serious than anything. It is like a bad joke. You return to the previous lvl on the material and then go back to the composite material and it doesn't keep the layers on their correct order, so 3dsmax is doing whatever it wants. I was going to report the problem because I thought that I was doing something wrong and no one has this stupid problem, but I just found this post and to me is absurd that this is related to the software and there is still no solution for it.

Hello @Anonymous,

Yes, this seems to have occurred with the release of SP3.  I updated the log with more info and a video on it, and that's all I can do for now as it won't obey layer orders at all, as noted.  Wasn't logged til recently, so please don't hesitate to report it in the forums if you see something in the future, I'll help in any way I can or log it myself.

Just wanted to tune in to complain about the composite material behaviour.

I have used it alot (almost every material) and if i have to change these materials in Max2017 it is very frustrating.

Please hurry up with fixing this (for me major) problem!

Kind regards

Stefan

I didn't notice the re-ordering of maps but if it's true this is a showstopper for me. I'm just switching render scenes over to 2017, I'm glad I found this thread as it'll save me some headaches.

Another problem I have is that the blending modes don't redraw, I have to hover over them in order to redraw to see them. Anyone else seeing this?

Thanks for your help, Alfred!

I'm trying to investigate the re-ordering issue, this is super important to me as it means I can't render use 2017 for rendering at all.

I tried to reproduce this but I don't think I'm seeing the same issue. Can anyone clarify:

- does the Composite Map change the order of the submaps in the list or only its layout in the Slate Material Editor?

- if it does change the order, does it change blending modes together with the corresponding submap or do they stay in place?

- if it does change the order, do you see any pattern? For example, does it re-order submaps by their names in alphabetical order or is there any other pattern it follows? This would be an important bit of info for the developers.

- did this happen after you installed the Security Fix (2017.1)?

Can someone post screenshots of the re-ordering or repro steps? I'd love to escalate this in the beta but can't repro on my PC, so anything that helps to understand what happens would be great to have.

Nevermind, just managed to reproduce this. Also, it appears that it's an acknowledged bug and even a knowledge base article exists:

Please make sure all of the bugs mentioned in this thread are fixed in an upcoming Service Pack for Max 2017.

Don't know if anybody have noticed or tried, but I have just downloaded the 3dsmax 2018 and this is unbelievable, but the error of the composite persists. It doesn't show visible thumbnails and it reorders the layers however it likes.

Sorry Autodesk, but this is so much nerve from you to release this just like that, I paid for the upgrade and this is ridiculous, I have paid for something that is broken.
