Strange tiling problem making planet

I'm trying to make a simple planet but the bitmap is tiling and I can't fix? For some reason "Use Real-World Scale" is checked off by default? I'm not sure why?

Is my software corrupted?

Please let me know.

Thanks

Chris

why do you need model tiled? because the planet is shouldn't be tiled does not the map fit onto the planet without you tiling it?

here is a basic  tutorial of modeling the planet the only thing is the music it's annoying https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=moWp5vsJ8l4

here is a better one from Dave jones part 1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cd747rAN9QA

part 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZsBD-nXb9M

final part 3 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imP9J824T5I

i love dave jones tutorials shame he got out of the business because there was not much work around to do with 3d in the united kingdom! hope these tutorials help you

But there is no mention of tiling issues? I did not have this tiling issue
happen with previous versions of 3ds max!?

you're the one who put a question mark near tiling not me so if you have a did not have a question about tiling, why would you not write i need help with the real world scale, UVW map modifier or texture slate mapping instead of asking a question about tiling that is included in your subject title

Simple. I'm still learning. It's little things like this tiling issue
that slows me down.

Not sure why it's happening?

Hello @Anonymous and welcome to the community,

Don't worry, I'll get you sorted out.  Depending on which mode you are using, Real World scale may be checked.  In the case of your planet, the scale is what sets the tiling when you have it on.  So by scaling those numbers up you should be able to remove your tiling.  I think it might be easier with that off and using a simple spherical mapping on your sphere.

If you want it always on or always off, you can find the setting in Customize->Preferences-> General tab on the bottom right.  Please let me know if you have any questions, I'll help you in any way possible.

see i don't see what the different is what i gave him a tutorials from autodesk and what you're telling him Alfred

Hello @irishman_team_kilber,

There may not be a difference.  I just can't do support on a video that comes outside of Autodesk.  Sometimes a video can be frustrating when a quick few sentences work, but sometimes it's the reverse.  I'm just trying to help.

I have noticed that you are participating a lot in the forums and I think that's great.  How you say things can often be just as important as what you say.  Anyone can learn Max, and people structure information differently from one another, that's all.  When the light bulb comes on, it's a good feeling.   Maybe my post was redundant, I'm human and I do make mistakes and occasionally I fail.  But as long as @Anonymous gets the answer needed, I'm not all that possessive about where it comes from.

Best Regards,

but the very last tutorial came from autodesk and it was an official one from their youtube channel. Some time i give up, some people think they can learn max in 5 minutes when it may take days months or even years

Hello @Anonymous,

I wanted to check in here, is everything working for you now?  Is there anything I can do?

Yes! I changed the setting and the problem disappeared!

Thanks so much!

Another question.  How can I make the text clearer in 3ds max? It always looks a little pixelated!?

Thank you for the confirmation @Anonymous!  You can change the text to look better as shown in the screenshots below.  Please let me know if you have any questions, I am happy to help.  In the second image, that button should be on for any material you want to show in high res.  The current material I have selected in the screenshot is blank, but use whichever mats you want in high res.

Thanks again!

Another question.  I have an airplane mesh. I want to create a blueprint and have to cut the fuselage into sections. Is there an easy way to do this quickly or do I have use the slice tool to make the sections?

Thanks

Hello @Anonymous, check out the swiftloop tool, it should do this quite fast by comparison.

I have a mesh that I pulled a spline off of using the create shape from selection tool.

Then I add some other splines to change the shape and attach. But when I convert to a polygon only the splines I made appear. The one I created from the mesh disappears.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

Chris

Never mind!  I solved it.  I was not properly aligning other splines with the one I created!

Doh!

Thanks
