As I recall, the quality of the elements in the Max 2014 viewport was not that great. You'll probably need to render something to see it accurately. The newest versions of Max, especially with RTS graphics cards make the viewports look almost like renders, but Max 2014 didn't have that yet. Also, what lights are in the scene? You may need some lights to generate those specular and glossiness attributes.

Viewport quality is actually downgraded in newest versions of max!

Wherever you see performance improvement (not many places - non progressive ambient occlusion eg.)"effect" is downgraded because engine is same, years back.

Nitrous is in Max from 2012. Not that you need it for specular reflection in viewport...

@Anonymous

Check your normals - Normal modifier ->Flip norm. or/and turn realistic material in viewport (with single-sided standard mat. (default option))

Normally I'd ask if you could upload the file and I'd check it out, but I don't have that version of Max anymore. Hopefully @domo.spaji can get you going.

I had a look at your file. I opened it up in Max 2021 and it did not show specular in the viewport. I then changed the individual viewport render setting from 'User Defined' to 'Standard' and the specular showed up. See the attachments.

Something is wrong with your scene. Merge your object/s to another scene file.
