solving gimbal lock issue ruins animation

Hye guys,

So I have been following this other forum post (https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/3ds-max-animation-and-rigging/gimbal-lock-issue/td-p/8394811) on how to get rid of the gimbal lock warning when exporting to fbx.

I had already animated my model and the problem I have is that when disabling "always deform" the model goes back to its neutral position but the bones don't, this ends up offsetting the bones and ruining the animation. See the images for further clearification. So I was wondering is there a way I can temporary disable deform so I can reset my bone scale without moving the mesh.

Bad setup:

Thanks!
