smart extrude with snapping and constraint question

hi ,

can someone please help me how this guy does the trick in second 28.... smart extrude with constraint and snapping.

i cant understand him very good, and the transcript also does not make it clearer. if i press 3d snap the constraint is no more active....

In his example his snaps are constrained, meaning that he's got movement in the Y axis active so his selection will only move in that axis.  You enable this by Alt+F3, or clicking the button in the Axis Constraints toolbar that has the XY with a magnet on it.
